Telmo Ferreira, age 45, of Farmingville was charged with aggravated DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the Tuesday, Oct. 5, incident, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

SCPD said officers were on the eastbound Long Island Expressway at Exit 58 in Islandia shortly before 1 p.m. when they saw a 2000 International roll-off truck that had a 12,000-pound excavator unsecured on the rear of the truck.

The officers pulled the truck over and determined that the driver, identified as Ferreira, was intoxicated and was driving without a commercial driver's license, SCPD said.

Ferreira is set to be arraigned on Wednesday, Oct. 6, authorities said.

Ferreira's vehicle was impounded, police said.
